Karen Dawn runs the animal advocacy media watch DawnWatch.com and is the author of “Thanking the Monkey: Rethinking the Way we Treat Animals” (Harper Collins, 2008).

She has written frequently for the Los Angeles Times (both alone and sharing a byline with Professor Peter Singer), the Washington Post, New York Newsday and the UK Guardian and has, this year,  started contributing articles on animal issues to The Progressive Magazine. She has hosted animal themed radio shows on the Los Angeles station KPFK and Houston’s KPFT. Her annual Thanksgiving turkey rescue has been covered in both local and national television news, including on CNN. Karen focuses on joyous “big picture” activism and will share her thoughts on easy veganism and on making our efforts for animals inviting and effective.
